What Problems Can Veneers Fix?

  • Covering up tooth fragmentation like chips or cracks
  • Strengthening worn-down teeth
  • Addressing small gaps between teeth
  • Repairing teeth that are misshapen or too short
  • Covering stained teeth

Why is Porcelain Used?

At Lincoln Dental, we provide veneers made from porcelain. Although several other materials can also be used, such as ceramic, porcelain is advantageous in multiple ways, such as:

  • Customizable. Patients work with our team to select the shade of porcelain that matches their smile.
  • Strong. Porcelain is durable and can withstand daily pressure exerted onto your teeth from biting and chewing. As a result, your veneers can last between 10-15 years.
  • Stain-Resistant. Unlike ceramic, porcelain does not stain easily, so you can have a beautiful, uniform smile for longer. This treatment is recommended for patients whose smiles don’t respond to traditional teeth whitening.
  • Biocompatible. Dental porcelain is high-quality and won’t cause swelling or irritation to your oral tissues.

Getting Veneers at Our Local Practice

A few sessions are required to acquire your veneers. Once you’ve attended a consultation with one of our dentists in Coquitlam, BC and they’ve approved you for the treatment, we can get started. Here is what you can expect:

  1. If needed,we will take x-rays and clean your teeth to eliminate amalgamated debris.
  2. The teeth acquiring the veneers – you can get one, two, or several shells placed – are prepped. A layer of enamel is carefully removed, roughening up the tooth’s surface. This step is essential to ensure the veneer can bond in place. However, enamel removal cannot be reversed.
  3. We take molds of yourteeth, so dental technicians can make shells that match your oral dimensions.
  4. Temporary veneers are placed over your prepared teeth. You’ll keep these on for a few weeks until the permanent shells are ready.
  5. We’ll have youcome back to the clinic and swap out the temporary veneers with the customized shells. They’ll be trimmed, adjusted, and polished before you go.

Let us know if you have concerns or questions at any point during your treatment. Following a daily hygiene regimen will help your veneers stay in good condition. If you grind and clench your teeth, we’ll also provide a mouthguard to protect your veneers.

FAQ's

1. How long do dental veneers typically last?

Dental veneers last between 10 -15 years if they are properly cared for. They survive based on oral hygiene, dietary habits, and habits such as teeth grinding. Dental visits now and then ensure that they last as long as possible.

2. Do veneers require special care or maintenance?

Veneers need no special attention but must be treated like natural teeth—brushing, flossing, and a routine dental visit. Do not bite hard materials to avoid breakage. A nightguard might be recommended if you grind your teeth.

3. Can veneers stain or discolor over time?

Composite veneers are prone to staining but porcelain veneers are not. They can be kept shiny by not drinking coffee, tea, or red wine. It also helps to stop surface discoloration from happening if you get regular cleanings.

4. Can veneers fix gaps between teeth?

Yes, veneers close tiny spaces and enhance the contours of your smile. They’re an excellent alternative to orthodontics for minor spacing issues. Your dentist will tailor them to fit naturally.

5. Will veneers make my teeth look bulky or unnatural?

No, veneers are created to be a natural and snug fit for your teeth. Dentists remove a thin layer of enamel so they’ll be even with your teeth. Well-done veneers enhance the beauty of your smile without being bulky.

6. Can veneers be removed if I change my mind later?

Veneers are a permanent solution since a very thin layer of enamel is cut off before insertion. Should they be replaced if necessary, but you cannot go back to your original teeth. You need to think this through before veneers.
